Who is behind Bitigo?

The Founders

Valentin Meier Co-Founder With a passion for Hospitality and dance, Valentin decided to carry out his studies at the École Hoteliere de Lausanne and at the same time to become a licensed dance teacher of Swissdance. After four and a half years of studying hospitality management he decided to work as a consultant for LH2 (Lausanne Health & Hospitality) where he had the opportunity to stay in touch with his love for the hotel industry and work on various large projects from Austria to China. At the same time, Valentin began his career as a dance teacher at K’Danse (Switzerland). His dream however remained to find a way to combine his two passions: Hospitality and teaching.

Manuela Berger Co-Founder Manuela grew up in 8 countries, spread over three continents during the first twenty years of her life. This lifestyle brought her in close contact with the hospitality industry. Manuela decided to study at École Hoteliere de Lausanne, in order to acquire a good basis for her creativity and passion for hospitality. During her studies she carried out a Sales & Marketing internship in Los Angeles. While there, she realized how difficult it was to find the  leisure courses she was looking for. The information was scattered, incomplete and difficult to find unlike what she was used to from the hospitality industry. She also realized the importance of Information Technologies and began to take a keen interest in it as she took elements of the reservation and property management systems from the hospitality industry and applied them to Bitigo.

The Evolution of the Idea    

These circumstances lead to the evolution of Bitigo. We realized that there are millions of courses available in all different domains, offered by large organizations as well as individuals and that there was no place where these were united and easily accessible. This became our new goal: to create a place where all courses can be easily found and are accessible to everyone. Education and continuing learning are increasingly critical in our society today and at the same time many people take great pleasure in developing their skills, learning new ones and also in sharing their knowledge. We wanted to be able to support those who take the initiative to braoden their horizens or to share their skills.

Inspiration from Hospitality Industry

The main idea and certain features of Bitigo were also inspired by existing tools in the hospitality industry, such as Expedia.com or E-bookers.com. These websites offer the same service, however, instead of helping course providers to make themselves known and course participants find their suitable course, they deal with hotels, flights and other travel assistance.

Likewise, as is taught in the hospitality industry, the greatest luxury today is not a yacht or a private plane, it is something that is most difficult, if not impossible, to buy with money: TIME. Knowing how valuable time is in todays society, we wanted to provide a service via this website, that can save people time when searching for courses or course participants and at the same time make continuing education more easily accessible to all.

Plans & Goals

Our goal is to have the most complete database of courses available in any one location. But our vision does not end there as we plan to add many additional features that will complement the search for courses or course  participants. We want, more than anything, to provide the people in today’s society a useful tool that will make their lives easier for them.

The Technical Aspect

Clearly, neither of us have an I.T. background, and although we could have experimented and tried to make the website ourselves, we decided that the quality and flawless functioning of the website was worth an investment in an experienced web-development company, Concepto Sarl.

Together we will continue making improvements to Bitigo and adding further features the all our users can benefit from. If you have questions or ideas and input we would be happy to receive them. We will take the time to respond to you personally as soon as possible.
